  1. Hello, I'm a new user of opensplice DDS...i'm working with Vortex Opensplice HDE Release 6.8.2. i'm developing a Python script to write/read data to/from Vortex Opensplice Tester. To read the samples, I'm using waitForConditions() method of WaitSet class. This method needs two parameters a collection of conditions to be satisfied and a timeout...the problem i'm facing with this method is that it's always generating the timeout exception without any consideration for the defined conditions. when i activate the commented line in the code, i can read my data. (with commenting waitForConditions() line)Test_bis.py hereafter, a piece of code i'm testing : topic = osplscript.dds.findTopic(MyClass.topic_name) rd =osplscript.dds.Reader(topic) selector = rd.newSelectBuilder().withAlive().withNotRead().withNew()\ .content('Car.temp = self.temp and Car.Hum=self.hum')\ .build() ws=osplscript.dds.WaitSet( ) #ws.attachCondition(selector.condition()) ==> this works fine solely, without waitForConditions() try timeout_duration = osplscript.qos.Duration(2,0) ws.waitForConditions(selector.condition(),timeout_duration) topic_sample = selector.take() ... except osplscript.dds.TimeoutException as timeout_exception print timeout_exception.message

Differently from traditional message-centric technologies, DDS is data-centric – the accent is on seamless (user-defined) data sharing as opposed to message delivery. Before joining PrismTech, Angelo was working as a Scientist at the SELEX-SI and FINMECCANICA Technology Directorate. To do so it is essential that the sub-systems cooperating toward this goal agree on the meaning of data, and can share a “uniform” or at least an “equivalent” representation of data. Without a shared and agreed data model any IoT application quickly becomes an integration bazaar doomed to implode under the weight of layers of translations. Additionally, data models, and in general data-centric architectures, provide a more stable abstraction-barrier than service APIs and service-oriented architectures – the failure of traditional Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) in favor of Resource-Oriented architectures is yet another example of this. Thus, for “data-intensive” systems that are expected to have a long life-cycle, and that require interoperability, such as IoT applications, data-centric architectures are the most natural choice. The Data Distribution Service (DDS), is used as the data-management infrastructure at the foundation of many IoT applications, such as Smart Grids, Smart Transportation, Connected Vehicles and Smart Agriculture. One of the differentiating characteristics of DDS is its support for data- and resource-centric architectures. This webcast will (1) explain the role and scope of data modeling in IoT – with references to the Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) and the Industrial Internet Reference Architecture (IIRA), (2) introduce the techniques at the foundation of effective and extensible Data Models, and (3) explain how to design effective Data Models for systems powered by DDS. In technical forums and social media there is no lack of passionate discussions that praise the merits of one standard over the other. Yet, to date, there is little or perhaps no analysis that looks at the details of the different standards and how they perform in an in depth, qualitative, analytic and empirical evaluation. This webcast, will (1) introduce the key standards that are being proposed for the Internet of Things and the Industrial Internet, such as AMQP, CoAP, DDS, MQTT and REST, (2) present a qualitative comparison that highlights the different features provided by the various standards, (3) present an analytic comparison looking at the efficiency and scalability of the various protocols and (4) present the results of an empirical evaluation comparing the actual performances of the various standards.
